In 1975 Sony introduced the videocassette recorder. This powerful new technology was $1300. The VCR quickly became popular to the public. Only 3 years after the invention of the VCR, the rental movie business was born. As the price of VCRs decreased, the business grew. Home video also had a large influence on the growth of the VCR and rental movie business. The amount of money spent by Americans now on home movies surpasses that of the amount spent on movies today.
